Recognition and Management of Chronic Granulomatous Disease VIEW DETAILS

Infections are common in the primary care office.  Multiple infections may be a sign of a disorder of the immune system.  Diagnosis of these disorders can be challenging.  In this module, Dr. Jennifer Leiding discusses Chronic Granulomatous Disease, its clinical signs, and therapy.  Early diagnosis is critical for appropriate treatment, and physicians should be aware of early clinical signs.

Osteopetrosis: Diagnosis, Biology and Therapy VIEW DETAILS

Osteopetrosis is a disorder of osteoclasts that leads to increased bone density.  While bone density may be one of the more obvious findings, the disease also has hematologic and infectious manifestations.  Children with this disorder may elude diagnosis because physicians are not aware of the signs and symptoms of the disorder.  This lecture offers an excellent review of the clinical presentation of osteopetrosis, current treatment, and the underlying genetics and biology.
